Shin Gallery - "I Wanna Be Me"

On Friday the Shin Gallery on the Lower East Side held a gallery opening called "I Wanna Be Me". The paintings by Balthus, Dali, and Hyon Gyon were hung in a constructed Punk Rock Bathroom. Each artist has a certain rejection of societal, cultural, and artistic norms as does Punk Rock. The juxtaposition between fine art, graffiti art, and a restroom was inspired. 

It was fun to be in such a unique gallery space. The Shin Gallery puts on some very unique shows, and represents some amazing Korean Artists.

Shopping for Supplies

This weekend I went fabric shopping with my college roommate Charlotte for her senior collection. We stopped at Elegant Fabrics, Daytona Trim, and Mood. Even after living in New York my whole life I have never been fabric shopping and it has been on my list for a long time. It was a fun little adventure and a great time to catch up. I got to meet little Swatch the Mood mascot! That little dog has no idea just how famous he is. She picked up tons of samples, and I got some supplies for this years recycled leather earrings. 

A New Experience

Today and tomorrow I am working in a special needs classroom.

They have been a shining light in my life since I first stepped in to be their art sub for the day. Being in this classroom has made me think about getting a dual certification in Special Education and Art Education. 

I have begun to get to know each student in the class, their needs, loves, and learning strategies. One student learned my name today and took an interest in my star nose stud. As soon as he noticed it, pointing and touching my nose saying, "Star!", I took it out. For the rest of the day noticed that it was gone and he said "Di Vitto! Star GONE!". He is so observant and, intelligent, that I cannot help but smile. 

Today I left the classroom, a little smarter in the dynamics of a classroom, and many smiles and hugs richer. I cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings.
